Content Rules

To comply with safety laws, conversations are automatically checked for a few specific safety issues, such as self-harm and use by minors. Before each conversation you'll confirm that you understand you're talking with an AI, and you'll see a reminder every 3 hours.
What's welcome
- R1N is still an adult space. Romance, flirting, and explicit roleplay between adults are welcome.
- Nothing changes about how private your conversations are, except for the short flagged excerpts described below.
What's off limits
- R1N is for adults only. If you identify as under 18, your account will be placed on review and you'll need to verify your age again before you can continue.
- Roleplay involving minors is never allowed, including characters described as under 18, in high school, or childlike.
- Conversation about suicide, self-harm, and eating disorders is not allowed. Engaging in these topics will result in your account being placed on hold. This is not a punishment; we're legally required to respond to these topics. I'll personally review the situation, which I aim to do within 48 hours. You'll be shown resources if you need help.
- Threats to hurt people or conversations involving violence are not allowed.
- Asking an agent to provide medical, legal, or professional therapy services is not allowed. We have a legal obligation to prevent our agents from engaging in this type of dialog.
What happens
Enforcement of our policy is not meant as a punishment, but is required for us to abide by the law. In most cases, your account will be placed on hold until we can review the situation. The conversation may end abruptly. This is for your safety, as our AI agents cannot responsibly manage sensitive topics. We try to review all safety issues within 48 hours.
Your privacy
- Checks are done by an automated system as you talk. No person listens in.
- When something is flagged, only the few lines around that moment are saved, encrypted, and deleted automatically after 90 days. Our team may review a flagged excerpt.
- We keep a count of crisis help messages shown, with no personal details, for the reports some states require.
See the Privacy Policy and our crisis protocol.
Why we do this
New laws for AI companion apps, including California's companion chatbot law (SB 243) and New York's AI companion law, require apps like R1N to watch for signs of self-harm and point people to crisis services, to remind you that you're talking with an AI, and to keep minors out.
